Why the Democratic Party Has Concealed their Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: A Deep Dive.

This decision from the Democratic National Committee to block the release of its internal autopsy report concerning the 2024 election appears remarkable yet to be expected. Resistant to hard truths, the party's leadership apparatus behaves closer to a publicity machine rather than an electoral entity focused on cultivating a volunteer base capable of prevailing at the polls.

An Environment That Avoids Dissent

Unwilling to challenge the prevailing attitude of conformity, the committee has stayed under the Biden-Harris shadow throughout this past year. Publishing an official autopsy could have demonstrated that party leaders truly desire to encourage public discourse about the errors that enabled the former president to win re-election. Instead, the leadership is moving forward as if there are no lessons to be learned following the tragic debacle from the last cycle.

Our guiding principle: is this good for winning elections? If the answer is no, it is an unnecessary diversion from what truly matters," a justification that has been offered to justify concealing the report.

Critical Problems a Report Might Have Addressed

A genuine analysis of substance would tackle head-on key points of failure. Among them are:

  • Electoral Disengagement: Losing of a significant portion of the electorate who supported the party's candidate during the previous election was decisive during the tight 2024 election.
  • The Choice to Seek Re-election: The determined choice by the incumbent to run again, alongside a very late withdrawal, is viewed as robbing the party's base of a genuine choice.
  • Abandoning the Working-Class Base: Amid economic anxiety, the electoral effort is criticized for ceding to corporate donors' interests and not managing to address the effects of profit-seeking.
  • The Gaza Factor: The refusal to reconsider a policy position on the situation in Gaza is cited as driving away key demographic groups, notably with young people, Arab American communities, and Muslim Americans.
  • Losing Young Voter Backing: Polling data shows a significant drop-off in votes for the candidate from voters aged 18-29.

A Pattern Shunning Scrutiny

This refusal fits a recurring tendency to avoid hard truths. It recalls a situation in which virtually every elected Democrat in Congress acquiesced to a sitting president's decision for seeking another term until a poor televised debate forced a reversal.

At the same time, large majorities of Democratic voters had been continually telling surveyors of their opposition to the incumbent to be the nominee.

Campaign Spending Issues

An honest report could probe issues about where money went, such as how much money went to insider consultants as well as ad buyers during a campaign that burned through an enormous amount during the general election.

A Larger Problem

Ultimately, the blockage regarding the analysis points to an allegiance toward the established hierarchy that oversaw a disastrous national race. The implication for rank-and-file members – which includes millions of small donors – is that they do not be trusted to know the lessons party chiefs claim to have learned from hundreds of interviews based on extensive interviews.

An organization incapable to honestly assess where it went wrong is unlikely to climb out of the cycle which was so helpful to their opponents.
