A teenage boy was discovered deceased only a few days after being wrongly blamed of stealing the cremated remains of a dead infant during a break-in, a coroner's inquiry has heard.

Tragic Discovery

The young boy's mother and father found his remains in his bedroom at his Connah's Quay home on November 19th, 2021.

False Accusations Begin

The investigation heard how his parent got a message on 8 November 2021 via social media, from a individual asking if her son was her child. The message stated: "Inform him thanks for breaking into my apartment."

In a statement presented to the court, the mother said the individual had been in the media, claiming her infant's remains had been stolen in a burglary - a claim which was untrue.

Law Enforcement Investigation

An official inquiry from authorities later determined the alleged burglary victim had "lied to police" and "it now appears that said property was never stolen in the first place".

News coverage about the supposed taken remains attracted online comments, and although the teenager was not named in the posts, his mother said individuals "knew it was him".

The "social media content were extremely distressing", she said.

Mental Health Impact

She added that Kai had been diagnosed with mild ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other individuals' opinions genuinely were important to him.

"It would have affected him severely," she said, "particularly when this was not true".

The teenager was detained at home, but no evidence was found. He was transported to a law enforcement facility and later released pending further inquiry.

Police said they would be in touch, the hearing learned, but had not reached out to the family by the moment of his death.

Withdrawal and Worry

His mother said Kai "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had received anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could feel like much longer".

When she spoke to him about the supposed burglary, she said her child informed her he had gone into the residence because the resident who resided there had said he could utilize the toilet anytime he needed, but denied taking anything.

Online Harassment

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, Mrs Lloyd said her son was being harassed digitally after the allegations.

The inquest heard that a young adult encouraged the teenager to kill himself.

She had no concerns on the evening before he passed away, explaining how she had heard him "laughing and joking".

She described him as a "caring, affectionate" young man, and said her "relatives is completely devastated".

He had been "obviously hiding his worries", she stated, noting that he could not stand to have anybody "have negative thoughts of him".

Educational Response

The inquest received testimony from educational personnel at Connah's Quay secondary school.

On November 8th, she "overheard some boys talking that the student had been arrested and that was the initial I learned".

"He informed me... he'd done nothing wrong," she continued.

After the conversation, the educator said she rang Kai's family landline and left a message saying she had spoken to the student about the allegations.

The court heard his parents said they did not got that communication.

Official Conclusion

Senior investigator informed the inquest he would await documents regarding what improvements had been made to dealing with suspects with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of future fatalities report.

Providing a descriptive conclusion, he said: "Approximately November 8th, 2021, unsupported accusations were made against the teenager, a 14-year-old child.

"Likely falsehoods were subsequently exaggerated and amplified through the platform of social media.

"During November 11th, he was interviewed by the police and following his questioning he was freed while inquiries continued."

The official concluded: "Exists no evidence that the acts or failures of any agency led to or added to his passing and although it was the outcome of a personal act it is impossible to discern his purpose."
